Here is a calendar that is going to the dogs.
The OPP launched their 2019 Canine Unit calendar on Tuesday at their General Headquarters in Orillia.
The calendar raises money for the OPP Youth Foundation and the Friends of the OPP Museum.
The 2018 calendar raised a total of $28,400 for the two charities.
OPP Constable Mark LaPointe — a full-time police dog trainer — says other police forces in Ontario and across Canada as well as firefighters have been doing these kinds of calendars for charity.
He says they thought this would be a good way to showcase the Canine Unit.
LaPointe says the calendar will feature 12 different dogs explaining the duties of each dog.
He says there are six different tasks and not every dog is trained to perform every one of them so they have a vast and diverse group of dogs.
LaPointe says because they have so many dogs they were not able to fit everyone of them in the 2018 calendar
He says the Canine Unit has 24 dog handlers and they all want their dogs in the calendar so the 2019 calendar will feature new dogs.
The 2019 OPP Canine Unit calendar can be purchased at OPP General Headquarters in Orillia or online at opp.ca.
