Police are warning people about a new version of an old scam.
The so-called “Overpayment Scam” sees fraudsters send a large cheque to victims asking them to cash the cheque, send a portion of the money back, and the victim would keep the rest.
The cheque turns out to be fake and the victim is out of large sums of money.
A 61-year-old Innisfil woman almost became a victim when she answered an ad on Facebook that sold advertising on vehicles.
While the business was legit, the person claiming to be representing the company was not.
Police say if you come across something like this that is too good to be true to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
