From Muskoka to Toronto, Ottawa to London, high school walkouts are expected this afternoon (1-3 pm) as students protest changes to the sex-ed curriculum.
More than 100 high schools are taking part across Ontario in one of the largest days of action by students in years.
Students say the protest is over the government's repeal of the 2015 sex ed lesson plans, eliminating topics like same-sex marriage, sexting and gender identity.
While high school students are still learning from the updated curriculum, those in elementary schools are being taught material drafted in 1998.
The Ontario government has set up a so-called snitch line to report teachers who continue to teach the 2015 content.
Education Minister Lisa Thompson said she hopes students will become engaged with public consultations the government will being rolling out next week, on a new sex ed curriculum.
