The City of Orillia is hoping a bright idea will turn into a tourist attraction.
Council Committee received a report from staff this week regarding the possibility of hosting a festival of lights event during the Christmas season.
Councillor Ralph Cipolla says the plan is to have festive lighting along the downtown and the waterfront.
He says it will be an event similar to one in Toronto where it attracts residents and visitors.
Cipolla says the winter season is a dead season for retail businesses.
He says an event like the festival of lights would help businesses tremendously.
Cipolla says there is an area down by the waterfront that they hope to put in a skate park where the lighting can be used.
He says this a win-win situation for the City and merchants.
