The City of Orillia is making some headway in an effort to redevelop the waterfront.
Council Committee on Monday agreed to a staff recommendation on the waterfront redevelopment implementation plan.
The plan would see staff prepare a request for proposal to put the property on 70 Front Street (Metro Plaza) on the market.
Councillor Ralph Cipolla says they would like to see not only residential development but also one that creates employment.
He says he hopes to see something there in the next couple of years.
Cipolla says the plan will also see Coldwater Road go through the property connecting the highway to the waterfront.
He says they will also reconstruct Centennial Drive to make it more pedestrian friendly.
Cipolla says staff will come back with a proposal to Council before the term is up.
He says he has been waiting a long time for something to move on waterfront redevelopment.
This recommendation will still require Council approval on Thursday.
