The Orillia 2018 Ontario Winter Games raised $170,000 to be put towards a legacy project for re-investment into the local community.
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee is recommending city council use the funds for the purchase and installation of a digital video board and scoring system for the Orillia Recreation Centre gymnasium.
Winter Games Chair Gill Tillman says the goal was to operate the Games on budget in order to receive the full $100,000 from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
Tillman says the fact an additional $70,000 was raised is a testament to the amazing community support.
The Games also brought in $4.2 million dollars in economic activity to the Orillia-area.
