Another year, another successful Mariposa Folk Festival.
Canadian musician Buffy Sainte Marie closed out the 58th edition of the music festival Sunday night at Tudhope Park in Orillia.
Saturday’s show was headlined by Great Big Sea frontman Alan Doyle.
Mariposa Folk Foundation President Pam Carter says Doyle had amazing show that evening.
She says everyone in the audience was singing, clapping, and dancing to his songs all night.
Also that evening was a performance from Orillia’s Gordon Lightfoot who later presented Bonnie Dobson an award for her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for her song “Morning Dew”
Carter says Lightfoot is the co-chair of the Songwriters Hall of Fame committee and the presentation was an iconic moment.
She says Dobson performed that song at the first Mariposa Folk Festival in 1961.
Carter says they enhanced children’s entertainment with jugglers, stilt walkers, and face painters.
She says this was a way to bring more families and youth to the festival.
Carter says this year was a record-breaking year for the festival with around 30,000 tickets sold.
