Trevor Ranton takes four-stroke lead to final round of 2015 Investors Group Junior Boys Championship
PORT HOPE If the players thought Dalewood Golf Club played tough during the second round, they were in for a surprise during the third. Things would not be any easier during the third round of the Golf Association of Ontarios (GAO) 2015 Investors Group Junior Boys Championship on July 23 in Port Hope.
While there were a pair of scores in the red during the round, they did not belong to the leaders who battled to stay around par all day. At the end of the round, it continued to be Waterloos Trevor Ranton holding the lead. The Golf Canada Development Squad member, from the Whistle Bear Golf Club, shot a two-over (73) to move to three-under for the tournament (65-72-73). Ranton will still hold a four-stroke advantage heading into the final round.
Four-shots back in a tie for second place are: Peterboroughs Sam Meek, from the Kawartha Golf & Country Club, and Scarboroughs Benjamin Thompson, from the Scarboro Golf & Country Club. The two players have posted identical rounds during the first three days of the competition and finished the third round one-over (72) to sit at one-over (69-73-72) for the tournament.
One back of Meek and Thompson, in a tie for fourth, are Waterloos Tyler Douse, from the Westmount Golf & Country Club, and Shelburnes Kyle Johnston, from the Shelburne Golf & Country Club. Douse (70-74-71) carded an even-par third round, while Johnston (69-72-74) was three-over.
The championship wraps up tomorrow with the final round, which begins at 8:00 a.m. Spectators are invited to Dalewood Golf Club to catch all of the action. The Investors Group Ontario Junior Boys Championship is open to male golfers 18 years of age and under. More is on the line than just the Lady Eaton Trophy – golfers are also vying for a quota spot to compete in 2015 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, hosted by Summerlea Golf & Country Club in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Aug. 3-6. The four-day event will conclude with the final round on Friday when the champion will be crowned and the inter-provincial team will be announced. Past winners of the event include: Gerry Kesselring, Gary Cowan, Stu Hamilton, Mike Weir, Jon Mills and Albin Choi.
