The results are in from an O-P-P community satisfaction survey for the Huronia West detachment.
The telephone survey was taken between February 13th and March 19th of this year and was conducted by the research firm R-A Malatest and Associates.
Community Service and Media Relations Officer Constable Mark Kinney says there were 381 individuals surveyed and of that total 97.4% say they felt “safe” or “very safe” in their community.
He says that shows that the detachment is going in the right direction.
Kinney says the survey was conducted outside of the busy tourist season.
He says the company wanted to hear from people who reside in the community and felt they can get better responses during those times of the year.
Kinney says the 2012 survey shows there is marginal improvement from their last survey in 2009.
But he says there are areas that he feels need improvement.
He says what they will do is continue to perform in areas where they do best and work hard in making improvements in areas that need attention.
Kinney says they still need to make a strong effort in listening to the public and getting resources to where they are needed.
He says while the media is doing a great job getting the message out, the detachment must also understand where the public is coming from.
Kinney says no community is 100 percent safe from crime.
But he says if the community can work together with the O-P-P or other police services they can reduce the impact of crime.
Other survey results show that 84.8% of respondents say there were “satisfied” and 93.1% say they were “very satisfied” by the way the Huronia West detachment were visible in the community.
93.1% of respondents say they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the quality of policing they are getting from the Huronia West detachment.
90.3% say they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the way the Huronia West detachment’s ability to work with the community to solve local problems.
