There will be celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of a book written by Stephen Leacock.
The book is called Sunshine Sketches of a Small Town.
It was written about Orillia back in 1912.
2012 will have all things Leacock in Orillia according to Leacock Museum Curator Fred Addis.
The year-long celebration kicked off today on what would have been Leacock’s 142nd birthday.
Addis says the highlight will be the Sunshine City 1912 Festival from July 27 to 29.
He says there will be plenty of things for the family to enjoy including horse and buggy rides, hot air balloon rides, antique car displays, and a heritage festival.
Addis says the festival will give a glimpse of the life and heritage of Orillia at the time Leacock’s stories first came to print.
He says they are also looking for ideas and proposals from various community groups to be a part of the unique celebration of Leacock’s remarkable book about Orillia.
