The frigid temperatures are hampering efforts to find a missing 23-year-old man who went canoeing with a relative on Lake Couchiching.
The O-P-P have postponed their efforts until conditions are more favourable.
Constable Wanda Pierce tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that if things change drastically in the next few days, they will be going out again.
She says a helicopter search for Owen Thompson of Cumberland, is also being called off.
Pierce says the weather and ice conditions make the search very difficult for divers to enter the lake.
She says the conditions resulted in poor visibility and it became very dangerous for the divers.
There is search party being organized this afternoon by local residents in the Cumberland Beach area.
Pierce says the public is more than welcome to help in finding the missing man.
But she advises everyone to stay away from the water as ice conditions on the lake are not safe and they don’t want to see any more tragedies.
Owen Thompson, and his 13 year old nephew, went missing after their canoe capsized on Tuesday.
Shawn Thompson died in hospital after he was pulled from the lake early Tuesday morning.
