Orillia Fire Department officials out with some safety tips for the Christmas season.
Fire Prevention Officer Paul Barrett says the Christmas tree is well watered and anything that could spark a fire like candles be kept well away from the tree.
He says people should also never leave anything on the stove in the kitchen unattended.
Barrett also says never over load extension cords or wall sockets.
He says make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
Barrett says its important for every one to have an escape plan to get out of the house if there is a fire, and once outside not to reenter the building.
He says phone the fire department from a neighbours house.
