Not many people are plunking their change into Salvation Army kettles in Orillia this year.
According to the Community Ministries Coordinator for Orillia Linda Goodall, donations are down about 26 hundred dollars compared to this time last year.
Goodall says the goal for 2011 was to raise 85 thousand dollars, up from the 82 thousand raised last year.
While donations are slow, she expects with the snow coming down it will put people into the Christmas mood and donate.
She says they still have two more weeks of the campaign to boost the totals for the year.
Goodall says she doesn’t know why donations are down in 2011 compared to 2010.
She says some people have asked “Where does the money go?” not realizing that the money collected stays in the Orillia area.
She says the money goes towards family services programs and the food bank.
Goodall says another reason donations are down is that they are in need of volunteers to man the kettles.
She says they don’t have all 11 kettles out in the area every day because of the lack of volunteers.
She asks that anyone interested in being a volunteer to call her at 705-326-3284.
Kettles can be found at all grocery stores, Orillia Square, L-C-B-O stores, and Canadian Tire in Orillia.
