Orillia’s Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli says that the young man injured in Thursday morning’s Peter Street house fire died on Friday.
The man had been in Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital’s intensive care unit since being pulled from the blaze. Dominelli did not give the man’s name or age, but indicated he appeared to be in his 20’s.
The fire started in the living room of the two-storey home which is divided into three apartments, early Thursday morning. And the apartment the man was found had a disabled smoke alarm which worsened his injuries.
Another man who managed to escape the home before crews arrived was taken to hospital in serious condition and was released Friday morning.
The case has been taken up by the provincial Office of the Chief Coroner.
