The probe into the cause of a fire that sent two people to hospital in Orillia Thursday morning continues.
Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli says a cause for the fire has not been determined at this time.
He says it was determined that the room of origin of the fire was the living room in apartment one.
An occupant from apartment one has been released from Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and the other remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
A smoke alarm in the common area between apartments one and two did operate at the time of the fire.
The smoke alarm in apartment one where the fire occurred was disabled prior to the fire and did not operate.
This caused the early detection of the fire to be delayed by a significant amount of time thus allowing toxic smoke to travel throughout apartment one.
This delay contributed to the seriousness of the injuries to both of the occupants in apartment one.
