A big boost for Soldiers Memorial Hospital s efforts to renovate the hospital nursery.
The Kiwanis Club of Orillia has pledged 100 thousand dollars over three years to help with that important 1.5 million dollar renovation.
Local Club President Carol Ivey says they have a special commitment to the community and the children of our community.
She says no child is more vulnerable than one born prematurely.
Without incubators, ventilators, photo-therapy, intravenous feeding and other complex medical care, many of these tiny infants would not survive.
the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is old and badly undersized for the volume of patients and families it services.
The expansion and renovation will more than double the NICU space from 955 to 2,200 square feet.
In a partnership spanning 20 years, the local Kiwanis Club has now dedicated $420,000 to the hospital
