Blackberry’s and other cellular devices will still be permitted during City board and committee meetings.
A notice of motion presented by Councillor Andrew Hill failed to pass during last nights City Council meeting.
Councillor Hill presented the argument that cell phones were a distraction during meetings and therefore should not be allowed – adding he felt it was inappropriate for members of City boards and committees to be engaged in conversation with those on the outside.
Councillor Tony Madden disagrees, stating he welcomes any and all input no matter if it’s before, during or after meetings.
Councillor Pete Bowen was also in disagreement saying the issue is a matter of courtesy – which he feels cannot be legislated.
In the end the motion was defeated 5-4.
