Orillia OPP are investigating an incident involving their patrol helicopter last Friday.
Just before 10 in the morning, the helicopter was on patrol flying above Severn Township when it was struck twice by a very high intensity laser. The beam came from a north-westerly direction, possibly in the area of Telford Line, Maple Valley Road and Swift Rapids Road.
The OPP is reminding the public that misusing lasers in this fashion is considered a serious offence as it results in endangering the safety of aircraft. Lasers have the potential to cause temporarily blindness and eye damage to a pilot .
And they are asking anyone with information to contact the Orillia detachment at 705-326-3536 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
