Orillia City Council will be looking at a possible research partnership with Lakehead University.
Councillor Patrick Kehoe is presenting the motion to council recommending the partnership between the City and university.
The idea first came up during discussion on Kehoe’s motion to take 255 West Street South off the table as a viable option for a future Multi-Use Recreation Facility.
The purpose of the partnership is to look at new remediation technologies and methods with regard to water or soil contamination on City-owned properties.
Kehoe has stated that discussions between the City and Lakehead are already underway.
One of the main goals of this partnership is to research, develop, and demonstrate “Made in Orillia” remediation solutions – to possibly serve as an example of environmental leadership to the rest of the province as well as the remediation industry.
