Georgian College’s state-of-the-art marine simulator is setting sail under a new name.
The sophisticated training simulator in the Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Centre at the school’s Owen Sound campus has been named after Jack Leitch, chairman of Upper Great Lakes Group Inc.
Leitch’s $1.5-million donation to the centre helped complete the school’s Power of Education campaign fundraising goal of $2.5 million.
The training simulator and facility has been used by students since 2008, and is part of the only Transport Canada-approved marine training facility in Ontario.
The centre features four navigational training bridges and an engine room simulator designed to imitate real-life scenarios.
