Orillia’s Soldiers Memorial Hospital will soon be taking a look at its policy on cellphones after Barries Royal Victoria Hospital announced an end to the ban on the mobile devices.
Orillia Hospital spokesman Terry Dyni says the current policy banning cell phone use is about 7 years old and should be reviewed.
He says it was initially put in place because of concerns over health and the fact the telephone transmissions could damage hospital equipment.
Dyni says technology has now changed a lot and those concerns don’t exist any more so its probably time to take another look at the policy to see if the ban should be lifted.
He says like the Barrie hospital, Soldiers Memorial would consider keeping the ban in place for sensitive area like the nursery or paediatric ward.
