The Women’s Institutes in Oro Medonte will be getting a special honour Friday at the opening of the Oro World’s Fair.
The Township has announced that its local Womens Institutes have been selected to collectively receive the 2011 Oro-Medonte Citizens of the Year Award in recognition of the members tremendous contributions to their communities.
Mayor Harry Hughes says the award will be handed out following the the Official Opening and School Parade at the 159th Oro Worlds Fair.
He says Representatives from the Central, East, Kempenfelt and North District Womens Institutes, each of which have past or present ties to the Township, will be presented with commemorative certificates.
Mayor Hughes says that much of the work the institutes do is behind the scenes and the selection committee and council both agreed that honouring them collectively was the best thing to do this year.
