Taxi company owners and drivers are going over some proposed changes to the taxi bylaw in Orillia.
There are seven proposed changes which include reducing the rates and replacing vehicles after six years.
One of the proposed changes is being met with some resistance from the taxi companies – having all taxis painted the same colour.
John Beck, owner of Able Taxi, says having to repaint his fleet would be costly and unnecessary.
Police Services Board Chair Rick Fraracci says the change is being proposed to eliminate confusion by making taxis more recognizeable.
Beck says the markings and signage on the taxis already does that.
The proposed changes are just that – there will be a process to determine which will be implemented.
Fraracci says the issue will be revisted in the coming weeks.
