The Education Quality and Accountability Office has released the results from the province’s Grades 3 and 6 assessment of reading, writing and mathematics and Grade 9 mathematics. The outcome for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board continues to be positive.
The overall results show achievement above or equal to the provincial average in Grade 3 writing and mathematics, and above the provincial average in Grade 6 reading, writing and mathematics. In addition, there continues to be steady progress in the number of students who are meeting or exceeding provincial standards since the tests were first introduced in 2002 – 2003. In particular, the board’s focus on literacy has resulted in significant improvements this year for Grade 3 writing and Grade 6 reading and writing.
The results for Grade 9 academic mathematics also improved significantly from 71% of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standards in 2009 – 2010 to 75% meeting or exceeding provincial standards in 2010 – 2011. For applied mathematics, the percentage of students achieving at or above the provincial standard has increased dramatically over time.
