The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board says that the enrolment in their Catholic elementary schools is up over 200 students. The numbers have increased from 13072 to 13312 in the 44 schools.
Schools where enrolment has increased significantly include St. Paul’s Catholic School in Alliston, St. Jean de Brbeuf in Bradford West Gwillimbury, and Saint Gabriel the Archangel, St. Catherine of Siena and The Good Shepherd Catholic Schools in Barrie.
In Collingwood, the number of new Kindergarten students at St. Mary’s Catholic School means that the board will be adding one more full day Kindergarten class at the school.
Brian Beal, Director of Education says the growth in many areas means more employment opportunities.
For our elementary schools, the increased enrolment means we will be hiring 12 more teachers, another vice-principal, and another designated early childhood educator.
There may be other staffing opportunities as we continue to evaluate the numbers.
It also means that parents will see restructuring of classes in some of our schools as we welcome the new students.”
The board is continuing to assess the enrolment at its secondary schools and expects the numbers to be up in these schools as well.
