Distracted driving continues to be a problem on Ontario roads – and the OPP are fed up.
Monday September 12th marks week three of the OPP distracted driving campaign “Phone in one hand, ticket in the other.”
Commissioner Chris Lewis says since the police cannot be everywhere all the time, he is pleading with the public to take action on distracted driving – which includes talking or texting on cell phones or similar handheld devices.
He says too many people are getting hurt or killed as a result of distracted driving on Ontario roads.
So far this year, distracted driving has been identified as a factor in nearly five thousand collisions on OPP patrolled roads.
Lewis adds there are plenty of excuses making the rounds among distracted drivers – none of which will convince an officer to not give you a ticket.
