Fries are out at Ontario’s schools – along with chips, pop, and other unhealthy food choices.
According to Anita Simpson, Superintendent with the Simcoe County District School Board, many schools within the school board are already in compliance as we enter a brand new school year.
Simpson says the junk food ban at Ontario schools only applies to food that is sold by school vendors – it does not apply to food brought in from other sources.
She says making healthy food available sets an example of healthy and responsible living.
Students will notice a few changes on the menu – although items such as pizza and wraps will still be present, though in healthier varities.
Simpsons believes the new school food program will be positively received by the students.
