It is not the news incoming Lakehead University Students here in Orillia wanted to hear.
Lakehead University has recently learned that the opening of the new student residence at the University Avenue campus in Orillia will be delayed and will not be ready for student move-in day, scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2011.
The University anticipates that students will move into the residence by the end of September.
This delay will impact 110 students who are currently registered for the residence. The University will provide temporary accommodations in three local hotels for these students, along with a full range of supports, including, single occupancy accommodation
use of hotel amenities including pool, fitness room, guest lounge, business centre, 24-hour front desk , shuttle service to and from campus
full slate of residence life programming and events on site.
A resident assistant (upper year student that serves as a mentor and peer support) in each hotel
breakfast included at the hotel and use of residence meal plans at hotel restaurants, in addition to food services in the academic building at the University Avenue campus and moving service to transport belongings from hotels to residence when it is ready for occupancy.
All students registered for the new residence have been informed of the delay in the opening of the residence and of the temporary arrangements. Students will arrive as planned to move into their accommodations on September 8. Student orientation takes place at the University Avenue campus September 9 11, followed by the first day of classes on September 12.
