An aging workforce and a labour force lacking specific skills two issues that Georgian College in Orillia is trying to head off at the so called demographic pass.
College Vice President Bob Kennedy says skills shortages in the future to replace retiring workers is the major concern they are hearing from business in the Orillia area.
He says they are constantly meting with the local business community to ask them just what type of skills they need to continue to operate and expand in the future.
Kennedy says they then take that information back and design courses that will meet the demand for skilled workers when the current workforce retires.
He says to meet the ever changing demands of business and industry the college is constantly renewing and changing its curriculum to meet those challenges.
Kennedy says they are also bringing in new programs to meet the changing needs of the community.
