Looking for a unique family fun outing this weekend? The Coldwater Canadian Museum is holding Heritage Day, this Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
Wayne Scott, Curator and Director of the museum says they’ve been very, very busy this summer getting ready and have quite a party planned.
Heritage Day gets underway with a church service conducted by the Presbyterian Church. This followed by a 19th. century lunch with hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage on a bun, ‘down home beans” and your choice of fresh pie. All proceeds from the lunch go to support the maintenance and restoration of the museum.
Scott says there will be a ribbon cutting at 1 o’clock for the re-location of the Print Shop, the opening of the Maime Gray Tea Room, the Union School House and the newly finished handicapped accessible washrooms.
Scott says they have a lot of exciting things to do. The Kids’ Discovery Area has an archeological dig, farm animals and poultry. There will be visiting authors, early Canadiana recipes to sample, rope making, local artisans, vintage and antique cars, as well as 19th century farm equipment. The entertainment will feature Band of HOPE. Scott tells us this group performs without any electrical equipment, if fact the singer uses a megaphone, and they perform music from the 19th and early 20th century.
And Scott wants to point out that the River Trail, along Coldwater River is available for people to experience the sights and sounds of nature in their beautiful 6.5 acre park setting. They’ve installed sponsored granite benches along the trail, which are part fundraising for the museum. You can purchase a bench, inscribe it and receive a tax receipt for placing your family bench for visitors to enjoy.
There’s no entry fee to enjoy the day, but they do ask for a donation to visit the homestead and out buildings.
Scott invites everyone to come down for Heritage and says that even if it rains they have enclosed area. And besisdes he says rain doesn’t last long in Coldwater
The Canadiana Museum is located outside Coldwater, opposite the corner of Woodrow and Highway 12.
