A local group has just received a 35 thousand dollar grant from the Provinces Greenbelt Fund to make the food distribution process in Simcoe County more efficient.
Sandra Trainer is the Executive Director of the Simcoe County Farm Fresh Association and says they will be investigating the local food distribution channels to find out just what now exists and where the gaps may be located.
She says the amount of food that is grown locally in Simcoe County is very impressive.
Trainer says this grant from the Greenbelt Fund will be a big help in figuring out how more of this great food can reach our health care residents, students, and children.
She says Simcoe County Farm Fresh Marketing Association is using this grant to determine the food purchasing practices of local public institutions.
Through this process the County will help to influence local institutions to purchase more local Ontario food.
Trainer says they should have completed the study by the spring of next year and then should have a better idea where they need to improve the food distribution system in the County.
