The Royal Canadian legion has started a nation wide campaign to honour armed service personnel who have served in Afghanistan.
Its called Words are Not Enough and the Legion plans an Afghanistan Veterans Appreciation Day.
It will be held on August 20 at the Orillia Legion and Legions right across the country.
Past president of the Orillia Legion Colin Wackett says a lot of people from this area are in theĀ armed service and served during the afghan conflict.
Wackett says the big problem is that they don’t know where or who these vets are and want families or even the vets themselves to contact the legion so they can be invited to the August 20 event so they can be thanked properly.
He says the Afghan veterans also will receive a gift and offered a free one year membership to the legion.
Wackett says the special gift the veterans will received is a special ball cap with the inscription Afghanistan Veteran on.
He says they will be the only people in Canada that will received that special cap.
Wackett says they want to hear from as many veterans as possible to invite them to the August 20 event.
They can contact him at the Orillia Legion at 705-325-8442.
