The MP for Simcoe North is reacting to the announcement by federal NDP leader Jack Layton that he is battling a new form of cancer.
Bruce Stanton says he saw no indication before Parliament went on summer break that Layton’s health was deteriorating.
Layton appeared frail as he struggled through his statement announcing that he is taking a leave of absence to undergo cancer treatment – which he said is not related to his prostate cancer.
Stanton says Layton can use the support of everyone as he deals with his latest bout with cancer – adding that he is optimistic Layton will return to the Commons in September.
Stanton gives Layton full marks for his highly successful election campaign in the face of his ongoing battle with prostate cancer.
