The Chippewas of Rama First Nation is prepared to receive fire evacuees from Northern Ontario.
Chief Sharon Stinson Henry says Rama was prepared for evacuees to begin arriving Thursday evening – but the community is now on standby alert.
Chief Sharon says the needs of the evacuees will be well looked after including basic neccessities, recreational needs, etc.
She adds the community is ready for special needs evacuees including the elderly, those with health problems, and families with small children.
Chief Sharon says with the situation constantly changing, she is not entirely sure when or if Rama will be receiving the first wave of evacuees.
More than three thousand people in Northwestern Ontario have been evacuated due to heavy smoke and fast moving flames.
Premier Dalton McGuinty is currently in that region to survey the damage and talk with fire personnel, volunteers, and evacuees.
The Premier has said there is no need to declare a state of emergency at this time – but is not ruling that option out.
