The City of Orillia has move to open up some of its air conditioned buildings to provide some relief to residents who don’t have any air conditioning.
The so called cooling centres are located at the City Centre building on Andrew Street South. The main floor is open from 8 in the morning until 8 in the evening for people to drop in to cool off or get a cool drink of water.
In addition Rotary Place, the West Orillia Sports Complex is open from 7 in the morning until 9 in the evening.
The Orillia Public Library on Gill Street is open from 10 until 8 this evening and 10 until six tomorrow evening.
The cities four splash pads also will be open from 9 in the morning until 9 in the evening. They are located at McKinnel Square park, Clayt French Park, Victoria Park and Moose Beach in Tudhope Park.
To ensure that people swimming are looked after, the Parks and Recreation Department is also extending Life Guard hours at the Citys Beaches. Hours will be posted daily.Meanwhile two cooling stations will be open today in Ramara Township. The first at the council chambers in Brechin, the second at Ramara Centre in Atherley. They will be open from 10 am until 8 pm.
