The Orillia Heritage Committee will be spending the next couple of months trying to find a home for the Ossawippi Train Cars currently sitting near the port.
Councillor Pete Bowen says discussions are ongoing with several interested parties about the future of the cars and how best to preserve them for future generations.
Bowen says the cars are of significant historical value – one of the cars is a survivor of the 1917 Halifax Explosion.
He adds the late September deadline should give the Committee enough time to present a number of recommendations to council about what to do with the cars.
However – should council reject the recommendations of the Heritage Committee, they will simply be disposed of.
Bowen says he simply wants the historical value of the cars to be respected.
