Hundreds of aspiring police officers have converged on the OPP Headquarters here in Orillia for OPP Bound 2011.
The three-day recruitment camp draws potential OPP officers from all over the country.
Sargent Christine Rae says the camp provides a scaled-down, yet realistic, police experience for the participants.
Participants experience a taste of the physical training involved in becoming an officer – as well as firearms training and self defense.
Rae says this is the ninth OPP Bound recruitment camp – which speaks to the success of the event.
She adds the program not only attracts those who have taken police training in college – but also those who work entirely different jobs who have been thinking about a career in policing.
Sgt Rae points out that not everyone is cut out to be a police officer – but adds there are plenty of civilian positions for those who do not wish to be an officer.
