Orillia’s Soldiers Memorial Hospital so far escaped the impact of the c defficile outbreak taking place at a number of hospitals in southern Ontario.
The Hospitals Manager of Infection Control Cindy Wigston says one of the reason for this is their strict regime of cleaning of hospital rooms and equipment.
She says another reason is the very strong hand hygiene rules that are in place for both hospital staff and visitors as well.
She says if a patient is diagnosed with C defficile they are placed in isolation and then the room is cleaned twice a day, and all equipment and furnishing in the room are sanitized as well.
In addition, Wigston says people entering the room are completely masked and gowned to prevent the spread of the infection.
She says all of the prevention measures they have put into place have really assisted the hospital in keeping C defficile out of the hospital.
In fact Wigston says they had no cases of C defficile for theĀ month of May and June and one of the reasons is their stringent cleaning controls.
