Opp officers in Orillia and surrounding area and right across the province armed with more than weapons when they are on patrol this summer.
They also will be packing positive tickets that are given to youth doing random acts of kindness or exhibiting positive behaviour.
The ticket is actually a coupon valid for a free 710 ml Froster beverage at all participating Mac’s stores across Ontario.
OPP Inspector Leslie Craig at the Orillia General headquarters says in addition to recognizing good behaviour by youth, Operation Freeze 2011 offers opportunities for OPP officers to interact with youth in a positive manner.
She goes on to say some officers may use the coupons to recognize youth for wearing bicycle helmets, doing good deeds, participating in community activities, picking up trash, deterring crime while others may use the coupons as literal “icebreakers” to establish a rapport with kids in their patrol area.
This is the second summer the OPP have operated this program right across the province, and Officers have been supplied with 50 thousand Operation Freeze coupons to be handed out to deserving youth.
