Orillia has placed a two-year moratorium on industrial development charges.
The measure will eliminate the charge facing industries that aim to develop new facilities or expand existing businesses in the city.
the city’s economic development manager Dan Landry says this action could lead to increased building activity, job creation and municipal tax revenue
Landry says during the business retention/expansion survey process, they talked to a number of businesses who have been considering expansion opportunities in the industrial sector and the development charges were identified as a hindrance.
He she economic development committee plans to include the moratorium in marketing materials and the city’s new website.
Landry says if they can promote we have zero development charges, he thinks that will get people’s attention.
