A special flag flying out side Orillia’s Opera House this week.
Its the flag of Telecare Orillia as the volunteer telephone help line embarks on a major fund raising drive.
Board Chair of Telecare Catharine Blakely says what sets them apart from other telephone help lines is their ability to listen.
Telecare Orillia handles more than 12 thousand crisis calls every year and since a similar operation in Barrie has closed its doors, the Orillia help line now services most of Simcoe county.
Blakely says Telecare Orillia has been operating in the city for the past 32 years and offers help for people with problems ranging from alcohol and drug abuse, suicide mental health or relationships.
Blakely they are in desperate need of more people to help man the phones.
She says to operate the help phones 24/7, they need a total of 75 to 80 people to help man the phones. Blakey says currently they have about 45 people helping out.
Blakely says their major fundraising campaign is now underway and they will be out this weekend looking for donations to keep the operation going.
