The Community Foundation of Orillia and Area handed out nearly $17,000 (Thursday) to 18 very deserving groups.
Funds were designated to three different categories; The Ontario Endowment for Children and Youth in Recreation Fund, The Community Fund, and donor-designated funds.
The Ontario Endowment for Children and Youth in Recreation Fund works to ensure that cultural and recreational opportunities are available to young people. This years recipients included; Huronia Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Project, Lion’s Oval Public School’s play space, The Society of St Vincent DePaul’s summer camp, the Township of Oro Medonte’s Kids Club Afterschool Project, and the Township of Ramara’s camp field trips.
The Community Fund gave out 10 grants to; The Couchiching Jubilee House, The ALS Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, the Mariposa Folk Foundation, Orillia’s Housing Resource Centre, the OSPCA of Orillia, Telecare, The Sharing Place, and Twin Lakes Secondary School.
Awards were also given to 3 donor-designated funds; The Orillia YMCA, the City of Orillia’s Trails for Life Council, and North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services.
Executive Director of the Community Foundations Marilyn deLang says the experience of giving this money away has been a fun one.
The Foundation has granted over $300,000 since its inception, and continues to work hard to fulfill their goal of strengthening our community.
