Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton has received a bit of a promotion on Parliament Hill.
He has been appointed as one of three deputy speakers.
Officially Stanton is the Assistant Deputy Chair of the Committees of the Whole.
He says that means he will be presiding over the commons when the speaker is not available.
Stanton says in this position he will not be able to take a position for or against the government and must remain impartial and neutral.
He says he is hopeful he can bring more civility back to the commons in his position as Assistant Deputy Chair of the Committees of the Whole or one of the deputy speakers.
Stanton was one of eight Members of Parliament who ran for the position of Speaker of the House on June 2nd.
Andrew Scheer was successfully elected the new Speaker of the House.
Monday, along with MP Stantons appointment, MP Denise Savoie was appointed as Deputy Speaker and MP Barry Devolin was appointed Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole.
