Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton has been appointed to the position of assistant deputy chair of the committees of the whole, according to the Packet & Times.
The assistant deputy chair is a member of the panel of chairs and may be appointed by the speaker to chair legislative committee, and may also act in place of the speaker to appoint other members from the panel to chair legislative committees.
Stanton may attend caucus meetings, participate in debate and vote. In accordance with recent practice, this position means they generally avoid taking part in debate, but exercise their right to vote when not presiding over the House.
Stanton says he’s honoured to have been chosen for the position.
