Orillia OPP continue to investigate yesterday’s fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision in the downtown area. Around 6:45 last evening, a northbound vehicle on Front was attempting to turn onto Coldwater and struck two pedestrians.
56-year old Debra Young of Orillia was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem will be held today to determine the cause of death.
80-year old Eileen Hewitt, also of Orillia was injured and transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
Police will be back at the intersection of Coldwater and Front to assist the investgation at 6:30 this evening. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, as the road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
