It was a day of celebration Sunday at the Orillia YMCA as a two million dollar expansion to the building was officially opened.
Y General Manager Gilda Evely says its taken more than five years to plan, design, raise funds and construct the 10 thousand square food addition.
The improved facility features a large wellness centre which incorporates all the cardio and conditioning equipment.
Evely says the other part of the renovations include improved and larger change room for families and people with special needs.
It is open to both genders, allowing either parent to accompany their child.
She says the new workout area for which another story was added also has something for people of all ages and abilities, with lots of room to move around and accessible equipment.
Evely says its critical that the YMCA be accessible to every member of the community and anything that an able bodied person can do, people with special needs can do at the Orillia Y.
She says the expansion was necessary as they were bursting at the seams.
The Y currently serves about 3,800 people of all ages and economic situations, providing opportunities for swimming, working out, daycare and much more.
