The President of the Ontario Waterpower Association, Paul Norris, says Orillia is a leader in the production of water based electricity.
Speaking with Sunshine 89.1 News, Norris says there has been a province wide renaissance of hydroelectricity and part of that will result in the reopening of the Wasdell Falls hydroelectric generating station near Washago.
Orillia Power operates three hydro electric power stations that generate enough power for more than 10 thousand homes.
There are currently 50 active hydro development applications across the province which Norris says include brand new developments and the reactivation, or upgrading of existing facilities.
Norris says it was waterpower that built original economic prosperity and it still is the backbone of our electricity system.
