An Orillia area lawyer and former Federal Cabinie Minister has been appointed to a special Lakehead University task force looking at setting up a University Faculty of Law.
The Task Force was created following a vote by Lakehead University Senate on May 13, at which both the proposed curriculum and the establishment of a Faculty of Law were approved. The Senate vote came on the heels of the Law Society of Upper Canada approval of the proposed curriculum in April.
The Task Force comprises prominent members of the legal and business communities from the region as well as Simcoe County.
The faculty would be located in Thunder Bay.
Lewis served as the Member of Parliament for Simcoe North from 1979 to 1993. During that time, he also served in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney as Attorney General of Canada and Minister of Justice, Government House Leader, Minister of Transport and Solicitor General.
