The City of Orillia is now in possession of a citizens petition to ban the installation of wireless Internet at the new public library.
The petition, presented by local parent Colleen Genno, contains 160 signatures from those who do not want to see WiFi at the library.
Genno cites health concerns, especially in children, as her motivation for circulating the petition.
She says her son began showing symptoms, including nosebleeds, which Genno suspects as being side effects to WiFi signals in her child’s school.
Genno says there is more than enough evidence to spur Health Canada to conduct a comprehensive study on possible side effects resulting from WiFi technology.
No word as of yet if Council will support Genno’s call for hard-wired Internet at the library – though there did seem to be some interest from various councillors to at least look into the matter.
