A massive campaign to promote Orillia as a tourist destination for travellers on Highway 11 is about to be launched.
Tourism promoters in Orillia are joining forces to encourage visitors to experience the full slate of festivals and events happening in the city this summer.
The co-operative marketing campaign between the City’s Economic Development Committee (EDC), the Department of Culture and Heritage, the local Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Improvement Area includes a billboard presence along Highway 11 and a series of television commercials.
Councilor Pete Bowen, who chairs the EDC’s tourism sub-committee, said the campaign follows consultation with the city’s tourism stakeholders in early 2011 to come up with some common messaging and simple strategies leading into the upcoming tourism season.
The billboards, to be unveiled later this month, will feature a simple message inviting the millions of motorists travelling along Highway 11 to check out the Sunshine City. The signs will also feature a changeable marquee that will promote the individual events being hosted in Orillia this summer.
The television commercials will air between June and October, and will follow a similar theme. The commercials will target residents living within a 60 to 80 kilometer radius of the city, along with other potential day trippers who may be visiting or summering in the region.
